Abstract: Trust is the foundation of social stability as well as an important element of socioeconomic development. At present, the status of trust in China causes anxiety, and crisis of trust has become a phenomenon. Identity trust and contract trust as well as third-party trust are three basic modalities of trust, each one of which has a solid social foundation. Thus on the basis of social foundation of trust that different trust modalities apply to and adjust different social foundations, our society can be fractionized into general living areas, areas of applied economy and law, and areas of virtual network of economy and law. If we can differentiate respective advantages of each form of trust, we can acquire reasonable cognition on trust and develop resultant forces of trust so as to solve the crisis of trust. Furthermore, in the virtual society of the internet age, the limitations of trust from contract should be fairly recognized, and measures should be taken to promote and regulate trust from the third party.
